Bobbi has already asked key question--"Does anybody really know what time it is?"

As she said, don't look at the calendar, look at conditions across the US and tropics. I tell you, it doesn't look like the beginning of fall! Large cut-off low over Colorado, but no deep diving troughs pushing colder temps toward the southeast. Most oppressive dew points of the season felt here along northern gulf coast, warm temps up and down the eastern seaboard. With this pattern in place, any development of late season activity in the Carribean or Gulf, would have a greater than normal chance of affecting the US in the month of October. So perhaps Jimw's suspicions of further activity in the late season may come to pass after all.
