What are your feelings about a hurricane hit here on the Island?do you think we are ready?
I feel the same way you do Fred. No we are not ready and if a big one does hit here. We are....I can't use that word on the board. How do you evacuate close to 9 million people counting Queens and Brooklyn, off Long Island from a fast moving hurricane with short notice. It's impossible. I was living in St. Pete Florida during the 2004 hurricane season. I came back to NY in 2005 because of medical reasons in the family. I felt a lot safer down there than I do here. If one comes this way, my family says they are not even going to try to evacuate, so I will stay with them and hunker down. My elevation according to the USGS is only 12 feet so the surge could get me as well. Not something I like to think about and hope a pray one does not hit here for a long time to come. |
