Everyone to wear dust masks in Iceland
Posted by JAC on 4/15/2010, 9:48 am

It is recommended that everyone who has to go outside wear a dust mask because of toxic chemicals that could possibly be emitted into the atmosphere through the ash fall that comes with the current volcanic eruption in Eyjafjallajökull glacier.

This applies to the entire country and not only those regions closest to the eruption, as it is not possible to forecast changes in wind direction with absolute certainty, mbl.is reports.

Dust masks are available free of charge at all healthcare centers. However, the Civil Protection Department asks people not to go outside unless absolutely necessary. For further information contact the Directorate of Health.
