I do not think that's true in this scenario. However much the ridge erodes, it will build back in after the passage of the trough. So it may be true that Alex will exacerbate the erosion of the ridge in the short term by sitting still and grinding into it for so long, but ultimately his destination depends on how much the ridge builds back in later in the forecast period IMO.

I have no idea how this ridge is hanging in there though. It's getting pinched from the east by the ULL, attacked by the trough approaching from the plains, and it has a developing tropical system eating away at it from the SW. This ridge is a fighter, that's for sure. Maybe the western-most model runs are responding to that?
