I understand your reasoning, I really do - I just, respectfully, disagree

Brett killed 7, roughly 150 homeless, $15,000,000 in damage in 1999 USD on that "pretty quiet beach" landfall

I wouldn't wish for a Brett either, on any part of the coast

luckily, Alex is forecast to make landfall in a sparsely populated area, but I'm sure there will still be devastation to many - I guess it (perspective) all depends on if it's your coast, your home, your life

so can we just agree to disagree
