I didn't see the big deal at first when I read Cypress's post until you said something and I thought about it. It is a little confusing but there are two situations. For example, take two people who are exactly in the same job and have the same income. But...

1. Person 1 is are not able to do anything right now but sit at home and not work. Or maybe they could find a temporary job that pays next to nothing.

2. Person 2 is thought they were lucky enough to get paid by BP to do some cleanup work.

They are now saying that person one and person two ultimately get the same amount of money from BP. (whether from a claim with BP or a claim with the government controlled compensation fund with BP money, they ultimately get the same amount of money)

That means person 2 worked tirelessly cleaning up oil out in record heat and put their health at risk when they could have sat at home and received the same amount of money. (or maybe even more money, because they might have found a temporary job or perhaps been able to do stuff around the house that they now had time to do which could save money in some way)

Person 1 and person 2's current compensation from BP for claims now should be deducted from the total amount of claims they get from BP, whether from BP itself or the government controlled fund. If someone gets $10,000 total and they get $2,000 from BP right now, then they should get only $8,000 more from the fund. If a person in the exact same position does not get any money now, then they should get $10,000 from the fund.

But if someone actually goes to work for BP doing cleanup work they certainly should be paid. Not getting paid a dime for it is ridiculous. Maybe the Associated Press misquoted Feinberg or he just didn't understand the question. I sure hope so.

Otherwise the only reason for someone to work for BP who has a claim with them would be because they want to help out and get this solved faster. Admirable, but they need compensation.

Heck, I'd rather they not put all of the people with claims to work then if this is true. Hire someone from out of the area who doesn't have a claim and that way BP would have to actually pay them. That would mean a hiring boom for thousands of people during this disaster.

I don't think the government will let that stand if that is their official position. Or maybe I still don't get it.
