Right now Earl is an enigma. As Bobbi points out, Earl is in a unusually dynamic and evolving atmosphere that makes good predictions nearly impossible. A change in shear, the timing of the inbound trough, Fiona's influence etc are all playing significant rolls forecasting accuracy.

To date, the models have trended Earl off shore. Too close for comfort, but off shore. That said, the tail will be told in the next 24-36 hours but that narrows the preparations window a lot for residence from Charleston to Virginia Beach and points north.

This is where it gets stick because civilians and local, state and federal governments all have a stake in what happens. To little or too much precaution will result in a blame game, no doubt.

Only time will tell.
