I don't know the strengths, but I have been in every hurricane on eastern Long Island since Hurricane Carol in 1954 and the one thing I do know and remember as a child was that upon hearing on the radio preceeding a storm was that a hurricane passing Cape Hatteras almost always meant we were in line for it, in the next several hours.
Impressive for me was Hurricane Donna as a child in 1960. My mother would say the 1938 Hurricane for her was most impressive. If I recall the 1938 had a similar track to this and was a cat3 when it hit Long Island.
