Japan upgrades quake magnitude to 9.0

Japan's Meteorological Agency said Sunday that it upgraded the magnitude of the Friday's devastating earthquake to 9.0 from the 8.8 reported earlier.
The US Geological Survey has measured the quake at a magnitude of 8.9.
The tremor was the strongest since record-keeping began in the 1800s and one of the biggest ever recorded on Earth.
Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Vulcanology said the Friday quake shifted the Earth's rotational axis by 25 centimeters.
