A lot depends on how much time they spend taking a beating from the mountains. Charley spent only a couple hours touring Cuba and went over the flat parts of it, whereas Gustav wanted to sight-see a bit more.

One of the most fascinating parts about hurricanes in this area where Emily is, is forecasting the track.............because you have so many different scenarios playing out. It could hit the mountains and fall apart.....it could take a southern route and become a "Rita" or "Katrina" like storm, clip the Keys and hit the Gulf. A couple hundred miles north, and it becomes an east coast storm and could hit Daytona, Savannah or the Carolinas.

It's fun looking at models and seeing all the different scenarios trying to play out and figuring out which lucky door it is, cause right now models suggest all 3 could play out. Even door #4 is an option, with it going out to sea, although like Jim suggested, that seems like the least likely if a HP builds in the NE.
