I think hurricanes (thier rain) can affect pollen levels

an interesting tidbit from http://www.climate.org/topics/health.html

"When ragweed is grown in conditions with twice the ambient level of carbon dioxide, the stalks sprout 10% taller than controls and produce 60% more pollen."

so perhaps it's a result of higher co2


maybe the added rains that Irene & Lee brought to the eastern US also had an effect on pollen levels this spring?  just a guess
