Re: The rest of the video

I might post some more video tonight. The water level in the canal is actually worse tonight. It is about like what Frances did. The little waves are washing soil and mulch away from the backyard.

The wind is also worse, in gusts tonight. We're getting some tropical storm force gusts tonight. I would say more like 50 mph than the 40 mph the airport a mile or two from me is reporting.

Water level nearest me:

The front entrance to my neighborhood is less flooded though. I think the same thing that happened to my street early this morning happened yesterday to the front entrance. The sea level was so high that the fresh water could not run off very fast. The eight inches of rain added to the salt water that had come up through the storm drains and could not level out very fast until the tide finally fell and all the water disappeared. Then, when the tide rose again, there was no rain, so the level was somewhere near eight inches lower than yesterday. Actually I think it was more than that yesterday, so there was probably a lot of fresh water runoff from other areas on the golf course that added to it. That is the only explanation I can think of.

Here is some video I posted this morning on YouTube of something I came across:

I'm still not sure if this is a freshwater fish or not. I heard from a neighbor that they found one about half a mile away from the nearest pond it could have lived in. Unless the roads were even more flooded this morning than I thought, it would have had to walk quite a long way.

And there is another good reason why you don't drive into flooded water. At least three cars that I know of that were flooded yesterday when they drove through water still can't start. At least one person has already received an estimate to see how much it will cost. I guess it is not the engine that was damaged, but other stuff. Not sure exactly what, but it is going to cost at least this person $2,000 to fix it. They almost made it through too, but almost doesn't count.

A neighbor across the street that did have fresh water flooding in their backyard did end up having water flood one room of their house. The interior homes are probably no more than about 300 feet from the canal, but there was just so much water and the land I guess was a little higher on some adjacent lots and they got flooded. I know my grandparents house in TN used to have that same problem.

At least Debby is teaching some new neighbors some things. They know that if we are ever required to evacuate you need to do it early before the road is covered in water. I talked to another neighbor about that today.

If the canal was up about two feet more, it would start flooding homes in the neighborhood next to me. I never realized they were so low. I'm several feet higher than they are and I'm lower than a lot of other houses in my neighborhood.
