MJO and Atlantic Basin / Weak Systems
Posted by Jake on 8/9/2012, 12:00 am
Found it interesting how the MJO has been neutral to mostly negative phase since early July. And we are at the (F) name. But, they have been mainly weak systems. Could be a correlation with the absense of a positive MJO. However, it appears that finally a positive MJO is moving into the basin from the west, just in time as we begin the normal ramp up in cyclone formation throughout the basin and especially the eastern atlantic.

Currently, we Ernesto and a well developed 92L which has potential to be named.
Should the GFS long range outlook verify with a train of systems coming off africa, the season will be on its way on being well above normal.

Any thoughts??
