The first March that we lived here, the No Name storm came in on us late on a Friday evening.  The Anclote River became a raging body of water breaking boats loose from there moorings and smashing them into the bridge (Alternate 19), inundated the Sponge Docks, flooded homes all around Kreamer Bayou.  We were in a stilt home a half mile from the bayous and the flooding inundated the swimming pool.  Fortunately our two cars and our truck were parked on an elevated concrete parking pad and the brackish water did not get into the motor or the vehicle interiors.  We rode around after that storm to all the homes were had been thinking about buying and eliminated all but two.  We have lived in this house for 19 years now and it is a level C evacuation.

The docks were again under water with flooding from TS Debbie this year and it flooded in places I have never seen flooded before. The eastern end of our street was flooded and impassable.  That has never happened before.  We rode out to Howard Park causeway and they had closed it because the Gulf was crossing it in several places.  The problem with staying in place for a Cat 1 is that we become an "island" unable to be reached in an emergency.  So even though we wouldn't be REQUIRED to evacuate, it would not be very smart to stay in the event of a medical emergency because the EMTs would not be able to get to us.

At 66 and 70, respectively, we have to think about those things.  Anything can happen.
