Tropical Cyclone Impact Graphics

Tropical Cyclone Impact Graphics (tcig) is what it appears they are using for surge (as well as other impacts) http://w1.weather.gov/tcig/

They had links from the NHC site to the WFOs that were issuing them & also on every NWS WFO site that was affected.  I do like this system, it has a lot of detail & was previously called "graphical hurricane local statement".

What I don't like about these is that they are not archived.  You can't go back & see "what was issued for Isaac". for example.  The last issued warning appears to stay up (not sure for how long), such as New Orleans/Baton Rouge WFO, Sept 30th; http://w1.weather.gov/tcig/php/tcig_index.php?sid=lix&threat=coastal

I also don't think there was enough "advertising" (for lack of a better word) of this, in advance.  In the midst of a possible catastrophe is not the best time to "test drive" a new warning system on the public, imo.  Maybe the individual WFOs should be doing this, maybe it was done for local emergency  managers, local hurricane  "prep shows" or the like, but I don't recall any of the websites making a note of it until Isaac was close enough for them to issue warnings (like 48 hrs prior) & that's a bit late to start prepping for 10 ft of water...

It also doesn't keep warnings availble for people to see on a regular basis, for example "this is what 10 ft of surge will do to Anytown"  I realize it varies from storm to storm, angle of approach, etc... but 10 ft is 10 ft,.. give the people something they can access on a regular basis, when they're not *%&$ing bricks from a huge tropical something coming their way, and don't make it so damned hard to find that info before the last possible moment...

Maybe local governments don't want it advertised what 10 ft of surge will do to their area, but it should be, loud & clear - time to stop playing politics with people's lives.  Water is what kills the most people, yet it's still the hardest information to find access to - that's a damned shame
