What is with poor Okinawa this year?

Commander Fleet Activities Okinawa

Seriously!?? Where's my vorpal sword .

Jelawat has apparently sighted some tasty jubjub birds in the vicinity of Okinawa and is burbling this way. It now has a projected path that looks like it was drawn by an eight-year-old with an etch-a-sketch and will bring it within (gulp) 44 MILES of Okinawa.

Jelawat is being forced west over the next couple of days because of a strong high pressure ridge to the east, but the Typhoon Warning Center predicts its track will curve dramatically (really dramatically) toward us after it passes Taiwan as that influence ends and it starts getting pulled toward a low pressure trough over Japan. Or something like that. Those darned models are in complete disarray again - and trying to get as far from each other as possible. Sigh. You know how models can be. The split in the forecast position of Jelawat (that manxome foe) as it gets in our neighborhood is over 650 miles. "Available ensemble guidance also
indicates a high degree of uncertainty in the forecast track with a spread similar to the deterministic solutions."

Whatever. The fact that my car is clean and my lawn furniture is sitting outside means we're going to TCCOR 1 at SOME point in the next week

Now is the time to check your stock of batteries, dry goods, diapers and dog food; we don't have a good idea where this storm will go right now (or when it will arrive) but you can never have enough of those things. Unless you don't have a dog or a baby. In which case, why the heck are you buying .? Never mind. Not asking.

I'll let you know when the models start talking to each other again. Until then: stay tuned, stay safe! Stormy
