AFN Okinawa

The latest typhoon update from the 18th Wing Weather Flight:

As of 8:30am today, Okinawa is in TCCOR-2. At 3am today, Super Typhoon Jelawat was located 379 miles Southwest of Kadena. It had winds gusting to 184 mph and was moving to the Northwest at 9 mph.

The closest point of approach is forecast to be 10 miles North of Kadena at 4pm Saturday. If Super Typhoon Jelawat continues to move as forecast, damaging winds of 57 mph or greater (sustained) are anticipated to occur from 8am to 8pm Saturday.

The strongest winds on Okinawa are expected to be sustained at 126 mph with 155 mph gusts at 3pm Saturday.
