Re: Some Citizens policies in FL are switching to other insurers unless you opt out

You may not be one of them. I was just taking a look at some news:
https://www.google.com/#tbm=nws&q=Citizens+Depopulation+Program

And it seems they are perhaps trying to get rid of 300,000 policies. However, I also noticed something in an article that brought up a good point. What if you miss the letter? You might get a massive rate hike and not even know it until it is too late. Who knows what else.

It seems like these companies that are taking on these policies get some incentives to do so. And in the past, some of the companies then went insolvent but apparently they have tried to reduce that risk this time around.

I guess it would not hurt to check with your agent. This line from that canned letter on Citizen's website:

"Your agent has accepted an appointment with Heritage Insurance and has agreed to continue to service your insurance needs through Heritage Insurance."

Doesn't seem to mean they actually talked to your agent. Our agent had no clue and had not been contacted.

I'll switch from Citizens when I have had time to review other companies that are willing to take on my policy and not one begging for my business by automatically trying to have me switch to them in a month.
