It's been awhile since we've seen a category 5 hurricane exist anywhere in the Atlantic basin:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Category_5_Atlantic_hurricanes
Last time was 2007 in Atlantic. (when there were two) 2010 for the East Pacific. It's not totally unusual for the Atlantic, but it is starting to become a long time.

Of course since 2007 two of the top three costliest Atlantic hurricanes have occurred and they were not even major hurricanes in terms of the direct damage due to wind. (obviously the damage was catastrophic, much because of the surge pushed up by the wind and large storm size) Ike in 2008. Sandy last year, which was technically post tropical for the US landfall but you would not have had what happened unless you had the hurricane to begin with become what it did.

As for Jim's 2004 track thinking, Florida doesn't like that thinking. Florida says pick another year. Florida had so many track lines that year running across all over the place, it is hard to still see Florida on a map of 2004 tracks.
