I was thinking it might help to sink some of it, but with all the debris and other junk already out there so long already the stuff on the surface is probably not going to start sinking much now. Just imagine how much has actually sunk. Aside from perhaps some new artificial reefs in shallower waters long term, which might be toxic in the near term, it is very sad to hear about how bad it is in part due to the tsunami. Other human activity is not helping anything either of course.

I guess a lot of these storms might bring more back to the shore. Some things might get caught in currents that just circulate it around, but the storms might help get some objects out of those currents and make more end up on shore somewhere.

I didn't really think of the significant impact on small and even medium size boats in terms of debris at this point. I knew there was still a lot of debris on the surface, but I didn't think about how you probably couldn't even travel at night without being concerned with hitting something,.
