I agree but there still is some pretty consequential shear inhibiting the northern periphery of the storm which is making it difficult for this thing to fully ventilate itself. I think this is another in a long line of storms that illustrates just how little we understand about intensification. Both Ike and Gustav were expected to intensify in the GoM when that body of water was more conducive to intensification than it is for Hermine and neither storm did so and to date I have seen no convincing explanation as to why. Same with Ernesto. Some NHC discussions with that system explicitly warned of the possibility that it could become an extremely powerful hurricane and yet it remained merely a TS right through landfall in south Florida. And what of the mystery behind the pretty significant weakening in both Rita and Katrina in the hors leading up to actual landfall? Why does that appear to be a pattern with hurricanes that make landfall on the northern Gulf coast? I think we know a lot less about how tropical systems work than we think we do.
