Member Map - O/T technical stuff

Only people who add themselves to the map are there. Also, make sure you don't add your exact location. I used to have it where if someone added a location I would randomly change it for privacy. But then some people ended up being shown in the Gulf or ocean. So now it uses the exact coordinates that you enter.

People can add themselves to the map here:
https://canetalk.com/cgi-bin/map.cgi
You can access that link from the "Update Your Public Profile" link in your account.

I keep forgetting I have to switch that map to ArcGIS eventually. Google gives that popup message "This page can't load Google Maps correctly" and writes "For development purposes only" when you don't pay them. You have the option, they will let you display the map, but they add that stuff. If you don't want that stuff added you have to enable billing on the project that uses the maps and they automatically charge you when you reach 28,000 map views in a month from desktop views. (mobile views are free) Static maps that don't move around don't charge as much, but then you can't zoom in. I just don't want to add too many maps under my project. I have Google Maps on my site and at HurricaneCity, in the model and recon systems where they are used, on the same project. That's the project I recently got Google to consider me a crisis responder for again so I got a lot more free usage. But if I add a map like this, because they can see what sites use maps under the project, it gets a little less on that topic. Eventually I will be switching from Google Maps to ArcGIS maps to display center fix mapping from the NHC's ATCF system. That mapping display is kind of like that member map display with the left column where you can click on something and it relates to a point on the map. Once I figure out how that display will work in ArcGIS there I can use what I learn to do the member map here. Until then, annoying popup there!
