I had never heard about heat tape. That would be a helpful portable thing for people to have. Pipes in the attic, that's crazy. (though the house my grandmother lived in had a hot water heater in the attic and of course if it had a problem it could have leaked down into the house) Not sure about whether the pipes were insulated under that house.

Tampa froze last night. Froze a layer of ice on my bird bath and within a few hours the copper plants we have started wilting. Everything else takes longer to see the impact. I stayed warm baking a few hundred cookies in the past few days to give out to some neighbors. Normally for people who aren't home I'll go the next day and check, but today if they weren't home it's better luck next year and I gave two plates to some people. It felt like the mid 30's outside and I won't even walk next door or across the street when I don't have to, lol. Had some hot chocolate and a few of the cookies since I had some left this year.
