It's always good to remove trees close to your house. Our insurance company actually came out and made sure nothing even touched the house. Not even a plant. It's also good to not have them next to your house because the roots can damage the foundation too. Or a pool, driveway or sidewalk.

Many years ago a giant tree in a tropical storm broke either in half, or a third of it fell, in the neighborhood next to me. The half that fell was over the yard and street. Had the other half fallen, it would have taken out the house. Even in this storm a neighbor in my neighborhood lost maybe half a tree. Again, luckily it didn't impact the house. The half that didn't fall was kind of next to their house. And the wind wasn't bad here at all.

It is good to get the trees cut in advance and get the debris cleared away. Florida is not completely out of danger, but the GFS and Euro, and their ensemble members, so far have been very consistent keeping it away from Florida. I'd like some upper air missions from the NOAA jet to have data into the models and see it gain some latitude to be more confident that that is most likely.

We used to have so many more trees than we do now. My dad removed them specifically due to hurricanes. Every hurricane we lose a tree or a big part of a tree. This time we lost one plumeria tree that got flooded with surge and then toppled over into the canal, with the roots coming out of the ground. We even lost a whole lot more plumeria trees it seems as they now seem to be dying around the canal. Anything the salt water touched, which was a lot, are dropping all their leaves and seem to be dying. If so, we'll be hauling parts of them off the rest of the year. Even some that weren't flooded above ground got inundated below ground I guess and they seem to be dying too because the roots touched the salt water. The water has come over the seawall before, but I guess it hasn't stuck around like this time, maybe for 12 hours. And then it's not like the salt would have necessarily left after that.
