Catastrophic flooding from a tropical cyclone, "Daniel", along the Mediterranean

Yesterday's blog from Jeff Masters and Bob Henson covered some of the storm at the end of the blog:

That storm, "Daniel", caused extreme rainfall in Greece earlier and then later made its way to Libya, in Africa. Thousands of people may have died in Libya, due in part to some dam collapses.

Storms are unofficially named in the Mediterranean Sea by Greece's meteorological service:

But I think it's time the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) makes it official, especially after this storm. People need to be made aware of the danger of these storms and the WMO really dropped the ball here. The same for the South Atlantic, where Brazil does it unofficially.

These storms occur in these regions and I assume they will likely be more frequent, and certainly more severe, with warmer waters, due to climate change. There's no reason to ignore these basins any longer. It costs lives.
