Sometimes Doorman, I have a habit of underestimating shear in when its connected to upper level high pressure systems. Most of the time, storms crossing the Atlantic have their clocks cleaned by TUTT's (with the deep long trough of low pressure) and the atmosphere being sucked toward some powerful Upper Level Low a thousand miles away. But shear also occus around high pressure systems, and really in these cases you have an interaction between the two, low and high. So you've got this broad zonal (almost a direct east-west flow) which is happens to be very strong indeed, especially as it is feeding into the TUTT off to its northeast. Its a mistake I've made before, underestimating the power of the east-west flow as compared to the diving flow around a trough. But I will keep posting Doorman.
