There has just been too much of an active cycle of troughs sweeping off the east coast this summer for a Cape Verde storm to make it all the way westward once it creeps up close to 30N or so. Yet another trough will be digging in toward the end of the forecast period and I fully expect that to swat bill out to the graveyard.
These troughs have not only been numerous but also unseasonably strong--we've had stretches of several days here in my part of Texas of absurdly cool mornings right in the belly of summer. Don't get me wrong, it's been hot as a furnace, but when one of these troughs sweeps by it can sometimes cool things down for days. Some of the T-Storms they've spawned out here blow away ANY summer storm I ever witnessed in my five years of living on Florida, by the way. Absolutely stunning power and fury. |
