Oh! It's all the same clam species?

I've spent a lot of time on the Delaware Coast where "cherry stone" clams are regularly eaten - and I always knew the larger cherry stones which we called "regular clams" and you call "Quahogs" were used for clam chowder - but I never had any idea those tiny "little necks" were in the same clam family.

If cherry stones are small quahogs, little necks are MINISCULE cherry stones. Little necks must be like two day old babies! Are you SURE they're the same species? It seems to me it would be illegal to harvest the babies.

Anyway, the problem with little neck clams is they're so frigging small and tasty - one can order some up with a bottle of Beck's Dark, then order some more...and more...and before ya know it, your tab is in triple digits! Unlike any other clam I know of, you can eat a gazillion little necks - and bankrupt your wallet!
