Let me cut and paste what i found interesting ..... ("A West-based El Nino means that the already warm waters in the Nino 3 and Nino 4 regions are heated further. This occurs while the eastern regions don't warm at the same rate. As a result, the North Pacific becomes more volatile than what is typical. A trough near the Aleutian Island regions flexes, and a downstream ridge over the Gulf of Alaska and western Canada also strengths as a result. This pattern practically cuts off the Pacific Jet, and cold Canadian air is able to pour into the eastern 1/2 of the US. A displaced Polar Jet and slow US pattern can result in some of the most extreme weather systems possible")......... |
