Storm surge from Hurricane Dennis destroyed our tiny (390 square foot) ground-level concrete block home on July 10, 2005. Dennis was a Cat-4 when way offshore of us in the GOM... too far away for any wind damage but the freak storm surge into Apalachee Bay took the Florida Big Bend by surprise... not even any evacuation warnings on Alligator Point because Dennis was not tracking toward this area. We were away at a family gathering in another state when Dennis threw that storm surge into Apalachee Bay and we returned to find nothing left of our home but a pile of rubble. Numerous ground level beach houses were completely destroyed here. We have rebuilt what we hope will have a chance of surviving future storm events... a small Deltec round house on very high concrete pilings.  Probably folly, but we love living here.  Thank you for Hurricane City and this Cane Talk board.  It helps us cope with the anxiety of hurricane season.
