The 26C maps seem to blue out areas where the SST's fall below 26C, but I suspect that sometimes the water below the surface has a higher salinity, so it may remain at lower depth despite higher temperatures.
Some of the deep salty water may be above 26C while the fresh water directly above it is less than 26C, IMHO.
