Sometimes we all have to be reminded (myself included---and I do try to think outside the box) that it takes more than just uniformity of models to rest assured in a forecast---but uniformity in models over a decent stretch of time--say 72 hours or so. So beginning yesterday virtually all models swung away from the earlier uncertainty to suggest a Mexican landfall. By midday today it was being called a done deal---with some national news outlets already reporting that Alex was not expected to affect the oil spill area. But the missing key ingredient was time and consistency in these model runs.
