With the pronounced westward component to Alex's motion today I am starting to think it could still be some time before the storm really is able to get its act back together. Even when the center finally does nudge out over the water its nearly due-west motion today will ensure that land interferes with its outflow. Waters are warm and the upper levels are kind but I wouldn't look for Alex to blow up as soon as it hits water because of the slow and due-west motion today. Interaction with land, even while the core reemerges over water, may hold back the reigns on this thing for longer than we expect.

I'd like its chances better if it had gained some latitude during its course over the Yucatan, but it hasn't.
