Me too. Jim....Wilma was a 2.5 and passed 80 miles away from key west and the lower keys through florida bay and it sent a 6-8 ft storm surge. We lost 15000 vehichles, 1000 homes with water in them including mine.   Only old town key west was dry... about 1mile by 1mile. the rest of the island was covered by the surge. The original island of key west was 1.5 by 1.5miles.   The military filled the rest of the island after WW II..and all that part of the island went under during Wilma.  The highest point in old town key west is 16 ft. and that is just a few streets. A 12 ft surge would put most of key west under and the rest of the island and the lower keys would be drowning.
As i sat through Wilma at my home the winds were 90 mph sustained. If key west had 120 sustained and a 15- 20 ft surge it would be all over for a while.
