Conclude your story sounds so familiar.  To answer your question to them it would be a yes.  

On the other side of the coin one of my neighbors excitedly said "2008 we were in the eye of a hurricane and survived it & so did the house!!!"  I asked "Where did you live?"   He said "Here!"  I know I had a funny look on my face and I said we were not hit by a hurricane in 2008."   The neighbor got very upset with me and kept saying I was wrong.  I suggested he look up it up on the net.  A few days later he was all smiles again and said "I was wrong it was not a hurricane but it was tropical storm Fay; I was right the eye passed over us."  I tried to gently tell him by the time Fay got to us she was by many and Emergency Services considered to be a non event.  My neighbor got very angry with me.  So angry in fact he refused to speak to me for several months and now only very limited conversation he can control.  

Another neighbor could not understand why I tried to tell the other neighbor he was wrong.  I said "What if a real hurricane comes along he would be in serious trouble because of his false securities."
