Creating a Disaster Supply Kit: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/prepare/supply_kit.shtml From the NHC's hurricane preparedness site: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/disaster_prevention.shtml
I'm not sure how long they have had 3 to 7 days for how much food and water you should have, but it seems like I had previously heard 3 days a lot, not sure what the NHC's position has been through the years. The more the better and perhaps they should just say at least seven days worth for those extreme cases. If you have the ability, you should certainly have a lot. We store a lot of empty containers in cabinets that we fill up with water if a hurricane comes around. Then we also have a lot of canned food. (and a manual can opener) |
