I do remember that for a brief moment before it made landfall in SC, Hugo did get people nervous in the northeast. Esther was most certainly a close call and at one time a powerful 145 mph storm. As for Betsy, that storm did appear to be on its way toward the Carolinas before its bizarre Andrew-like dip to the SW, so I would consider that among the storms that got people jittery up in the NE for a moment.
