'Thought I would start a new thread as Earl is threatening so many high population areas.
In the Norfolk, VA area I believe reallity is starting to sink in. Under Hurr. Watch and TS Warning. Lots of TV coverage. Stores not really crowded, a few lines at gas stations.
They are still putting up scaffolding ON Va Bch for the weekend big Rock and Roll Half Marathon.
Portsmouth Naval Hospital sent out FB message that suggests all pregnant ladies who are at least 38 weeks (out of 40) should come to hospital and bring their own bedding. They were putting up sandbags around the hospital this afternoon. Storm Condition 3.
Navy ships have not yet rcvd orders to leave, but are ready to go.
They are testing the flood gates for the Midtown tunnel tonight (??? seems like it is a little late)...to be sure they worked. In Isabel, they found out too late that the gates had accidentally been welded shut and the whole tunnel flooded to the ceiling. The traffic was gridlock and the tunnel was closed for repairs for weeks. Good picture here: http://www.wavy.com/dpp/news/local_news/Midtown-Tunnel-Gate-Testing-08312010
