Many moons ago I worked as a contractor for LILCO (the predecessor to LIPA). In fact I think LILCO went bankrupt (not positive on that). Many of the same people I worked with at LILCO retained their jobs when LIPA took over. The M.O. of LILCO back then was to get a "storm account" open and then milk it for all it was worth. There were times when small thunderstorms would knock down a couple trees. They damage would be repaired in days, yet they would keep us on the clock 16 hours a day 7 days a week for 3 weeks. I never slept more while getting paid than in Long Island! I have worked for power companies all over the Eastern half of the US and this company takes the cake for waste! I could go on with 100's stories of waste in the 2 years I worked on their system. I have never been around a more corrupt utility company. I should also point out that the last time I worked there was 1996, but it doesn't sound like much has changed. The are now hoping to open the FEMA wallet so their mistake can be distributed amongst us all!
