That watervapor loop shows the initial trough coming off of the southeast coast. Behind the upper level trough the winds have switched to the northwest. As an example: At 12Z this morn, Charleston had a 500mb wind out of the NW at 26kts. 300mb was NW at 47kts. There is a reinforcing upper level trough just northwest of the Great Lakes, that is forecast to swing down and deepen the trough that already moved off of the East Coast. It is this trough, that is forecast to weaken the western end of the mid-Atlantic ridge, that is forecast to turn Igor to the northwest. Clear as mud, right? |
