It was VERY BAD.  Many people lost their homes.  Rita's 15-20 food surge wiped out many areas in LA.  We were without power for 10 days (and we were some of the first to get electricity).  Our houses are well built in this neighborhood and almost everyone had to get their roofs replaced and of course, some houses had trees in them.  We also lost trees and fences.  It was a mess.

Houston should have had some people shelter in place.  It was mass confusion and poorly planned.
Our evacuation (which needed to be done) was disrupted by the mass amount of people leaving Houston.  Our shelters and hotels were full from Houston evacuees (that didn't need to leave).
It was a mess.

Beaumont has gone through three hurricanes since 2005-Rita, Humberto, and Ike.
I am very proud of the way our county responded to all three storms.  Other communities would benefit from paying attention to our preparation and planning.
