This is the Midwest...people are not stopped by snow and usually have little trouble driving. Everyone has snow tires!

From relatives' reports there though, this was a bad one with ice underneath...then the blizzard. Rarely will you see accidents like this in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa or Wisc.  however, they are more commonplace in the South and other places that panic with 1 to 2 inches of snow.

When I went to college at Montana State University in Bozeman (mile high), the school rarely closed. Everyone was to report...some came by snowshoe, cross c ountry skiis, snowmobile, snow tires and chains etc.. I remember one time that my big impala was completely drifted over with all the other cars in the sorority. We all got out and walked to classes in almost waist deep snow...they did not close the school.
