Sea Ice Extent - preparing for a presentation

I'm preparing for a presentation tomorrow and I created a new map courtesy of Cryosphere today where I compared products from Sept 1 first 1979 and 2010. The image was just one of those moments where it's kinda creepy. You get so lost up in school that this kinda thing slips your mind, even though your fully aware of the problem and why it's occuring and so forth.

Just thought I'd share.

*I* will see an Ice Free Arctic in my lifetime, more likely than not. Unless some other trigger mechanism is actived in the climate system that onsets a cooling phase.

Despite this, how can we go about our business with a picture like this. Remember extent is not the same as concentration or mass. These images indicate that the deeper magenta colors are the highest concentration. The change is drastic.
