The big blob you refer to is the trough off the east coast that will eventually tug the storm northward. The jog to the west we're seeing is in response to the ridge to the storm's north, which is the primary steering mechanism right now. As the storm progresses westward it will increasingly be influenced by the weakness off the east coast and start gaining latitude. |
