| Those of you in the cone must consider not only the saltwater surge heights but also the potential for freshwater flooding. Small streams and ditches or even flood plains so wide you don't notice them become raging rivers with heavy rain. My own home had 4 feet of water from Tropical Storm Allison in 2001. It was FRESH WATER FLOODING from the Amite River. If you stay you must be aware that the roads and bridges that you normally travel can become death traps. Know the lay of the land if you decide to stay. If you are at any risk of flooding whether from the sea or rain you must leave. Living in a flooded home is impossible. I know I could sent you pictures of my boat floating in my carport. It is miserable, please inquire from a knowledgeable person what your flood risk is. Your country should have maps of flood prone areas available. A local surveyors office could lead you in the right direction to know this information as well. |
