I couldn't agree more. People need to realize that a 100 mph Ike, carried a large swell, which nearly erased ALL of the Bolivar Peninsula.
A weakening hurricane's surge does not lessen. The first created swells from when Irene was a solid 120 mph Cat 3 are still out in front of the storm and their amplitude will not be lost by much if at all.
One should assume a large surge, even if a Cat 1 storm hits your area. |
