Track forecasts were really poor as well, until it got near the Bahamas. With both Emily and Irene, they were way off on the track in the Caribbean. 48-hour forecasts were going outside the cone. Nobody had this going north of Hispanola two days out, and it did.

I know many ridiculed people in the northeast for not taking this seriously, but the nor'easters we get are a lot worse than Irene. We got a lot of rain, some nice breezes, but my power only flickered on and off. With nor'easters, power will be out a week. I didn't much of a storm surge here on the shore. Gloria was much more intense. We dodged a bullet, no doubt. And I think those in Carolina will also say it wasn't bad....they've dealt with much worse.

Now I think hurricane season is about to enter a new phase. The attention will start turning more towards the Gulf Coast in a couple weeks. The west caribbean becomes the hot bed. And I think we're still in store for one big one. Usually every other year we get a Mitch or a Wilma or an Opal down there. Given how busy this year is, I think we're going to get one of those.
