Thanks this is good news, if it really crested at 36.7 last night my friends have at least some chance their house didn't flood. That sounds a lot better than the 40 to 45 ft the locals are all speculating, and is probably a more accurate estimate. Unfortunately my friends homes is among the highest on the Sopchoppy and I know a lot of people's houses did flood. Yesterday when we picked our friends up the Sopchoppy City hall was full of people with stories of having been rescued from deep water already in the house. The good news is so far no reports of deaths or serious injuries, there was one story of an FWC guy having to swim an 80 year old woman out of her house to where a boat could pick her up.
The Florida FWC people are doing a lot of the hard rescue here and they are doing a great job, some are working around the clock. |
