1%, I vote for odds like that. Of course, I am in a very, very low zone, so it doesn't take a mass evacuation. And all of downtown, which is where the Tampa Bay Times Forum is that will hold the RNC, sits right on the water on a channel off the Bay.
The problem is the size of Isaac. Isaac could do a lot of damage even if was still offshore quite a bit by simply piling up a lot of water due to his size. His speed would also be a major factor. He doesn't have to actually make landfall for there to be a tremendous amount of flooding in low lying areas, which there are plenty around here.
A few days ago, a simple front had the water level up to within a few inches of topping the seawall a neighborhood over from me. I still had a foot. And then about 4 extra feet before it would actually flood my house and many others in town. It doesn't take much here. |
