One night 7 years ago I went to sleep when Katrina was a cat 3 in the SE GOMEX. I woke up the next morning and Katrina was a 160 mph Cat 5 making a beeline for NOLA. When you put a strengthening system over the SE GOMEX this time of year, you're playing with fire.
Isaac may blow up or he may not, he may get his act together or he may continue to baffle us with his penchant for failing to respond to favorable conditions, but the bottom line NOBODY can argue is this: absolutely anything is possible over these waters this time of year, and that includes Cat 5.
Never take your eye off a storm entering the GOMEX in late August if you live on the Gulf coast. These people laughing it off in Mobile have no clue. None. |
